The theme of this episode is: “Paige is a sucker.” I’m a sucker for animals. I never meant to be this way, but here I am. Surrounded by 27 chickens, 2 pigs, 2 cows, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and loving every minute of it. Welcome to the farm!
In this episode, you’ll hear:
- The origin story of each precious creature in our herd (from our first pets to our latest homestead additions!)
- Why chicken math means 3 chickens = 27 chickens AND IT’S FINE
- How I (successfully?) acquired two 70-pound pigs by myself on an impulse buy while Brandon was out of town.
- How one cow became two.
And so much more!

Meet The Animals
Welcome to our menagerie! Here are all our furry and feather friends!
Belle the Boxer
This sweet old girl came to us as a rescue in 2015. She is a 9-year-old angel puppy with the softest cow mouth ever.
Bob the Cat
I found this little soot sprite in a pet store when he was 1 year old. He has a clipped ear (usually part of the trap-neuter-release program) but he’s not feral. He’s also missing half his tail – we don’t know what happened! But he certainly keeps us entertained!
Barin the Cat
This guy pretty much rules the roost over on Instagram. He’s just so darned photogenic, how can you not love him. He actually came from Instagram! After I lost my college cat Bo, a sweet woman reached out to me and told me she had a stray show up on her porch she couldn’t keep. She lived about an hour away and offered to get him to me. Thus, the Barin cat came to the farm.
Buddy the Pittie
SUCH A HANDSOME BOY!!! This guy came from a local shelter. He was in really rough shape when we got him. His back legs were almost completely atrophied from an old tail pulling injury. Two years later and he is the handsomest, goodest boy on the farm!
Lady and Panther
Oh these two. Apparently I can’t say no to Instagram messages that say “hey Paige. I have some animals.”
The original Instagram message came in as a call to rehome Lady (the dog). She’s a Great Pyrenees and loves to have lots of space to roam. We said we’d take her because we definitely have the space! But of course…she was friends with a black cat. So two cats and two dogs became three cats and three dogs! That escalated quickly!
Chickens

I can’t even explain how many chickens I have or when I got each of them. Just know that I am getting nearly a dozen eggs a day and I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM ALL. But omg chickens are the FUNNEST animal I swear.
Pigs
Chickens are the gateway animal. And after chickens? Welp. Pigs came next. WHOOPS.
Cows
Chickens, pigs, all that’s missing are cows! We grabbed these two sweet Dexter ladies in late winter and they’ve been munching on our fields ever since! You can see more about them here!
WHEW. That’s everyone! Enjoy the episode!
